“And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends…” (Job 42:10).

“If you are in the position of Job and have shipped some trouble on board that makes you taken up with yourself, remember that when Job prayed for his friends, God emancipated him.”  (Oswald Chambers)

“…what is that to thee?” (John 21:22)

“A disciple is one who minds neither his own business nor anyone else’s business, but looks steadfastly to Jesus and goes on following Him.” Oswald Chambers

“…remember the Lord from afar and let Jerusalem come into your mind” (Jeremiah 51:50).

“’And let Jerusalem,’ the God lit city, ‘come into your mind.’ Ask yourself—‘What do I let come into my mind?’ If a man lets his garden alone, it pretty soon ceases to be a garden; and if a saint lets his mind alone, it will soon become a garbage patch for Satan’s scarecrows.” Oswald Chambers

Do You See What I See?

The Christmas season is upon us and people are singing these words…

“Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?

Unfortunately, all too many people aren’t seeing what everyone else is seeing because they think they do not have enough money for a new pair of eyeglasses. But . . .

Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?

Have you heard that you can get a pair of eyeglasses straight from the manufacture for as little as $8? Check out this article about Zenni Optical.

Now that you hear what I hear about high quality eye-wear at reasonable and affordable prices, the next time you hear carolers sing “Do you see what I see?” you can say “Yes.”

Chocolate Covered Health

From time to time you will hear someone say that “everything that tastes great is bad for you.”  Not true when it comes to chocolate.

  • One plain milk chocolate candy bar has more protein than a banana.
  • Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), a natural substance that is reputed to stimulate the same reaction in the body as falling in love.
  • Dark chocolate contains flavonals that increase blood flow in the brain and makes you smarter.
  • A new study suggests that chocolate lovers are less likely to die following a heart attack.
  • Theobromine found in chocolate may be just as effective as fluoride at hardening tooth enamel.
  • Moderate consumption of chocolate may lower blood pressure.
  • Alkaloids in chocolate  have been linked to serotonin levels in the brain and seems to promote mental health.
  • Dark chocolate contains antioxidants associated with health improvement.

Something that improves cardiovascular health, prevents cancer, suppresses coughing, counters dementia, decreases the risk of heart attack, and improves ones mental health.  Chocolate defies the old saw that if it tastes good it isn’t good for you.

Battery Powered Cigarettes?

Electronic music, electronic books, electronic carving knives, – - we have become accustomed to electronic gadgets of all kinds.  But, electronic cigarettes?

I never thought I would be talking about cigarettes on Whale Balanced other than to say, “don’t smoke them.”  However, take a look at what one of the top sites for online information on electronic cigarettes is saying about Smokeless Cigarettes.

Electronic cigarettes are a smokeless alternative to tobacco products. A battery powered vaporizer with the look and feel of a conventional cigarette provides a vaporized puff of nicotine without combustion. No second hand smoke, no tar or carcinogens, no bad breath, no teeth stains, no fire hazard — there are lots of reasons for those who desire to lead a more well-balanced life to take a look at this as a possible alternative to cigarettes (especially if you can get an electronic cigarette free trial).

What do you think about electric cigarettes?

Gossip Is Destructive

As children we all learn the little song “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me.” What rubbish! Words hurt, and gossip kills. It kills the soul.

Kevin A. Miller has shared nine great questions to ask yourself before you share information with others:

  1. Am I telling this to someone who can do something about the problem by helping the person or offering discipline or correction?
  2. If not, am I telling this to someone who is wise enough to help me sort out my feelings and courageous enough to make me do the right thing: to confront the person or to confess where I was at fault?
  3. Is this news approved for sharing?
  4. Am I breaking a confidence? If so, is it only because the person is endangering someone’s life, including his or her own?
  5. Am I willing to say from whom I got this information so the information can be checked for accuracy?
  6. When I say this, does it break my heart?
  7. Have I taken the time to examine my life and confess to God how I also sin like that?
  8. Am I praying for the person?
  9. Would I feel comfortable if someone were saying this about me?

What questions would you add to this list?

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be” (James 3:9-10).

Timing A Great Buy

We previously discussed how to avoid being pressured into making an important decision due to a “limited-time” ultimatum. Time pressure can also work to your benefit. Many sales people are given sales quotas or depend on bonuses that come from reaching certain sales levels. That means that they are eager to make the sale at the end of a month, quarter or year. So, when in the market for large ticket items, it is in your best interest to engage them in negotiations when they are feeling the pressure to give you the best deal that they can.

Time is on your side, you just have to know what time it is.
